چکیده

The time-temperature transformation behavior of a rapidly solidified (RS) Ti-24Al-11Nb alloy has been studied between 450 and 850 “C using X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and microindentation methods. A revised isothermal transformation path from the initial B2 to the final cz? structure has been proposed: B2 (Pmjm)B19 (Pmma)-0’ (Cmcm) 0’ (Cmcm) a2 (P6,/mmc). Age-hardening was found to accompany the B2 + 0’ transitions. The hardness increased to a maximum value of about 5.4 GPa when the microstructure consisted of mostly 0’ laths. Further aging resulted in a softening correlated with 0’ coalescence and transformation to the a2 phase. The hardness decreased to a minimum value of about 2.6 GPa when the microstructure had evolved to an equiaxed a2 structure. The results reveal that the O’a2 reaction becomes extremely slow, i.e. the 0’ phase is kinetically stabilized, at temperatures below about 500 “C.

Influence of shock loading on the structure/property response of Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb and Ti-24Al-11Nb

Intermetallics are receiving increasing attention for applications requiring high-leverage materials possessing potentially high pay-offs such as in gas-turbine engines. While the quasistatic deformation response of a broad range of intermetallics is receiving intense scientific and engineering study increased utilization of intermetallics under dynamic loading requires an understanding of thei...

Comparison of the Microstructure, Tensile, and Creep Behavior for Ti-24Al-17Nb-0.66Mo (Atomic Percent) and Ti-24Al-17Nb-2.3Mo (Atomic Percent) Alloys

The effect of small molybdenum additions, 0.66 and 2.3 at. pct, on the microstructure, tensile, and creep behavior of a nominally Ti-24Al-17Nb (at. pct) alloy was investigated. The alloy containing 2.3 at. pct Mo contained higher body-centered-cubic (bcc) phase volume fractions, which was expected as Mo stabilizes the bcc phase. Constant load, tensile-creep experiments were performed in the str...

COMMONALITY OF PHENOMENA IN COMPOSITE MATERIALS The effect of molybdenum on the microstructure and creep behavior of Ti–24Al–17Nb–xMo alloys and Ti–24Al–17Nb–xMo SiC-fiber composites

The effect of molybdenum (Mo) on the microstructure and creep behavior of nominally Ti–24Al– 17Nb (at.%) alloys and their continuously reinforced SiCfiber composites (fiber volume fraction = 0.35) was investigated. Constant-load, tensile-creep experiments were performed in the stress range of 10–275 MPa at 650 C in air. A Ti–24Al–17Nb–2.3Mo (at.%) alloy exhibited significantly greater creep res...

TRANSFORMATION BEHAVIOR OF NiTi SHAPE MEMORY ALLOYS TREATED BY THERMOMECHANICAL PROCESSING USING DSC

Abstract: In the present study the effect of thermomechanical treatment (cold work and annealing) on the transformation behavior of NiTi shape memory alloys was studied. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to determine transformation temperature and its relation to precipitates and defects. Three alloys including Ti-50.3at.% Ni, Ti-50.5at.% Ni (reclamated orthodontic wires) and 50.6at...

Effect of Deformation Temperature on the Mechanical Behavior of a New TRIP/TWIP Steel Containing 21% Manganese

In recent years, TRIP/TWIP steels have been the focus of great attention thanks due to their excellent tensile strength-ductility combination. The compression tests were performed at different temperatures from 25 to1000°C to study the mechanical behavior of advanced austenitic steel with 21% manganese plus bearing Ti. The results indicated that the plastic deformation is controlled by deformat...
